Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! The primal Smith & Wesson Model 29, which came out in 1955 and was first manufactured in 1956/1957, was a revolutionary revolver that bore the title of the most powerful production handgun at that time. It was chambered for .44 Magnum; a large N-frame double-action revolver that merged unprecedented force with an admirable precision. At the start Model 29 had a standard barrel of length 6-1/2 inches but other lengths were available for this gun too. This revolver also featured a pinned barrel and recessed cylinder adding to its aesthetic appeal. Moreover, it had bright bluing and classic wooden grips. Due to its strong construction, the Model 29 could handle the heavy .44 Magnum cartridge without difficulty. Thus it became highly popular among hunters and gun enthusiasts in need of a powerful side weapon with accuracy. Nevertheless, even though being very powerful Model 29 has been appreciated for its smoothness of action as well as great shooting accuracy. While many would follow later on this original model would set a precedent thereby defining firearm design for generations to come.
