When your city feels like it’s no longer a safe place to live in, you have to make a decision to stay or not. It’s a big decision, so it’s smart to consider different factors and options to decide if it’s time to move.
Is It Time to Move to a Different City?
City life is not for everyone. That is why we have the suburbs.
However, the pandemic and the civil unrest across the nation have proven that even suburbanites are not safe from chaos. While convenience and community are two of the biggest benefits of living in the city or suburbs.
Now no one is sure what is coming to the city or suburb you live in. What will happen to the police, what will become of the people who are in the streets pulling down monuments? What happens if the country shuts down in the Fall due to COVID-19? How will this all affect the families in these homes?
Many people are sitting around their tables and looking at each other. They are asking tough questions about school districts, monthly payments, and employment. People are planning on moving away from the chaos.
Let’s look at some very important questions that you are going to want to ask yourselves about whether or not it’s time to move away from the chaos of big cities and densely populated suburbs.
How Is Your City Run?
This is an especially important consideration that many Americans have completely overlooked through the early 2000s. Many of us felt good about the adage that all politicians are the same. This gave us an out when it came to paying attention to the political process besides the presidential election.
Some states and cities have suffered dearly because the wrong people took power and did irreversible damage. Are you in one of these states? Has the leadership in your city let you down time and time again?
Where Can You Move To?
What is nearby? Are there places around you that make sense? Can you get to and from work, school, and other things?
You might be willing to uproot and change all the above. That is a serious undertaking. If there is a nice place in your surrounding area that makes sense, that can make the move more desirable to those who are sitting in suburbia or in the city.
What Are the Financial Implications of the Move?
One of the most important factors is whether you can afford to move. Can you sell your home? Will you have any money after you sell your home and what are you going to put down on your home?
There are some people who are going to be trapped financially and not be able to move or the move is going to require a serious risk. There are some people who cannot even begin to handle that kind of risk. Is that you?
Can You Be More Self-Reliant and Independent?
If you move away are you going to be able to make the most of the area you move to. You will have more room than you do now. What are you going to do with that room?
Do you have the aptitude to start growing food and raising chickens or goats? What can you learn to do? What can you become effective at in a short period of time?
If you find yourself on an acre and a half, you can do almost anything you want outside of raising cattle or bison.
Take advantage of that. This might not be a deal-breaker, but you should consider it.
Who Do You Know Out There?
Are you going to this thing solo? Do you know anyone around you or near you? While your neighborhood might be dealing with unique threats now, you have allies and family around you. This goes a long way.
It can be just as dangerous to be by yourself, far from home, as it is to be surrounded by a low-level threat with all your people around you.
What Will Your Area Look Like in Five Years?
No matter where you live you should always keep an eye on the trends, demographics, and politics. These things can tell you a lot about what will happen to an area in the next 5-10 years. It’s pretty easy to understand if you live in a place that is booming, fizzling or just stagnant.
Booming can be good but that often means more people. Higher population density can be a threat.
If the area you are living in is going down the drain and you see a rise in crime and a drop in overall quality of life over the next decade, well, it’s a great reason to move.
It’s a Good Time to Think About Moving
Right now, we are in a great market for selling your home. There is a good chance that if you put a decent home on the market it is going to see quickly. That means money in your pocket and maybe a down payment on the next home.
It won’t always be this way. Property value and desirability plummet when groups like Antifa and BLM come to town. They spray paint everything, destroy property and create a sense of fear in the population.
If this seethes into your suburban lot or part of the city, it could become nearly impossible to find a buyer.
I must imagine that by election time things will reach a fever pitch in this nation and selling a home, in some places, will be nearly impossible.
