Japanese Curry – Homemade Orc Curry
(Inspired by ‘Campfire Cooking in Another World’ Episode 21)
MAIN INGREDIENTS:
120 gr Pork, or any meat you like
1 (120 gr) medium onion
100 gr Potato
60 gr Carrot
1 clove Garlic
1 tbsp Butter
500 ml Water/Stock
1 box popular curry roux brands (Golden Curry, Vermont Curry, Java Curry, etc.)
OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS:
1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tbsp Ketchup
1/2 tbsp Honey
1/2 Grated Apple
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Soak the potato chunks in water for 15 minutes to remove excess starch. While waiting, slice the onion, cut the carrot, mince the garlic, and peel and grate the apple (if using).
2. Pat dry the meat and season lightly with salt.
3. Heat a pot over medium heat with butter or oil. Sear the meat for about 2 minutes until browned, then remove and set aside.
4. In the same pot, sauté the onions for 5 minutes until caramelized. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
5. Add the carrot and potatoes, stir briefly, then return the meat to the pot. Pour in the water or stock.
6. (Optional) Add grated apple, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and honey. Stir to combine.
7. Cover the pot and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Skim off any foam and check if potatoes are soft.
8. Turn off the heat and add the curry roux blocks. Stir until fully melted and combined.
9. Turn the heat back to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 20–30 minutes until the sauce thickens and the meat is tender.
10. Serve hot with steamed white rice. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 2–3 days—curry often tastes even better the next day!
