POTD: Squeeze Out Some Lead! Gaulois No. 1 Palm Pistol

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have an example of a weird pistol in that it is an 8mm Gaulois No 1 Palm Pistol. These pistols are strange by today’s standards, but back in the late 1800s and early 1900s they weren’t out of the question for a form of self-defense for the average-. The way these pistols work is similar to a double-action revolver. In this case, the rear grip is squeezed like a trigger until it breaks and fires.

“Gaulois No.1 Palm pistol. Made early 1900s in . Marked “MANUFACTURE FRANCIAS SAINT ETINNE/ARMES ET CYCLES” on the top of the frame. “GAULOIS” marked on the barrel rib. Pin front sight. Sliding dust cover. Reapplied matte blued finish on the . Wood grip looks to be a replacement.”
