New Managing Editor of AllOutdoor – Sam Schaust

Here at AllOutdoor, we’ve always aimed to bring you content that speaks to your passion for the outdoors. Whether that’s gear reviews to help guide your purchasing decisions, product announcements to keep you informed, stories of trips and experiences to entertain you, or tips and insights we think you’ll find valuable in your own outdoor pursuits. It’s a simple formula, but one that works because it’s built on a genuine love for the subject matter and respect for the readers who share it. We’re not here to sell you something you don’t need; we’re here to help you make informed decisions about the gear and pursuits that matter to you.

That mission isn’t changing. But today, I’m stepping into the role of Managing Editor for AllOutdoor, and I wanted to introduce myself properly.

Sam S

Adam Scepaniak, who many of you know from his extensive work here, across our family of sites, and beyond, is moving up into a larger role within our organization. He’ll still be contributing to AllOutdoor, but his focus is shifting to help grow what we’re building here and at our sister publications. I’ve known Adam for nearly eight years, and calling him a mentor would be accurate. He’s been invaluable both as a guide and, more importantly, as a friend. Under his leadership, AllOutdoor has grown into a publication that hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts actually trust, and that’s no small accomplishment in an industry crowded with clickbait and thinly-veiled product promotion. These are big boots to fill, and it’s a tough act to follow. I don’t take that lightly.

Sam S

For those unfamiliar with my work, I’ve been writing for TheFirearmBlog and AllOutdoor for six years now. At TFB, I’ve covered a broad range of content including reviews, Armorer’s Bench technical pieces, Wheelgun Wednesdays, Fudd Fridays, and Rimfire Reports. Here at AllOutdoor, my focus has leaned toward longer-form editorial work, including in-depth reviews, Curious Relics historical pieces, and the kind of content that takes a bit more time to research and write properly. I’ve always gravitated toward the stories that benefit from sitting with them a while longer.

Sam S

My background started with four years of gunsmithing college, followed by time working as a product service technician at FN America and five years as a gun store sales associate. That combination of formal training, manufacturer-side experience, and retail floor time gave me a well-rounded perspective on how gear performs, how it’s built, and what questions people actually have when they’re trying to make a decision. I’ve seen products fail in the field, watched manufacturers handle warranty issues, and spent countless hours answering real questions from people who just want something reliable. That experience taught me to look past marketing claims and focus on what actually matters when you’re miles from the truck, and your gear needs to work. I’ve spent roughly a decade in this industry, and I’ve been an active hunter, outdoorsman, and researcher the entire time.

Sam S

I’m an old soul who appreciates the heritage and craftsmanship behind the gear we use. Whether that’s a vintage firearm with a story behind it, a well-made knife that’ll outlast its owner, or a quirky piece of forgotten outdoor equipment that deserves a second look. I find value in the things that were built to last and the history that comes with them. That perspective has shaped a lot of my writing over the years, and it’ll continue to shape the direction I take with AllOutdoor moving forward.

Outside of work, you’ll find me hunting each fall, shooting film photography, enjoying a good cigar with a glass of Irish whiskey, or tinkering with old film projectors. I’ve even published a couple of books over the years, though those projects live in a different corner of my life.

Sam S

Looking ahead, my goal is to maintain what makes AllOutdoor valuable to you while continuing to refine and expand what we offer. I want to see more long-term gear testing that goes beyond the typical xx-day evaluation period, more coverage of regional hunting and fishing opportunities that don’t always make headlines, and more of the technical deep-dives that help you actually understand how and why something works the way it does. There are always areas worth exploring more deeply and perspectives worth bringing to the table, and I’m looking forward to seeing where that takes us. Feel free to let me know what you’d like to see more of. Reader input has always mattered here, and that’s not going to change. But fundamentally, we’re staying true to what we do best: bringing you honest reviews, timely product coverage, and content that helps you get more out of your time outside.

I’m grateful to be stepping into this role and working alongside a talented group of writers who care deeply about this community. Thank you for reading AllOutdoor, and here’s to the adventures ahead.
