Smith’s has brought out a brand new tool at ICAST 2024 that most anglers could use offshore, the new Lawaia Emergency Release Multi-Tool. This is the Smith’s newest addition to their lineup of sharpening and cutting tools, being both in one. The Lawaia Emergency Release Multi-Tool lets anglers get untangled in a hurry, with no exposed blade edge to worry about when seconds matter. The sharp knife edge of the emergency tool stays protected inside the groove to stay sharp and stay away from anything it shouldn’t be cutting. That way you don’t have to worry about cutting up your hands or whoever you are untangling in a hurry.

In addition to the emergency release grove the Lawaia Emergency Release Tool comes with several other functions. On the side of the tool, there is the Big Game Hook Sharpener, this is a diamond hone hook sharpener that can accommodate any hook from 1/0 to 12/0. Easily reviving hooks to be as sharp as they were when you first pulled them out of the pack. This is also built into the body of the tool to keep it out of the way and let it hold up better in the long run. On the other side of the tool, there are two sharpening slots. One is a course carbide for taking off more material from a knife in the field for a quick fix and the other is a fine ceramic to polish off the edge afterwards.

The Lawaia Emergency Release Tool comes equipped with a built-in carabiner clip as well so you can attach it anywhere handy such as a belt loop or clip on your bib. This carabiner also doubles as a bottle opener as well.  The Lawaia Emergency Release Tool is compact at 4.5″ x 1.25″, and weighs only 1.5 ounces. MSRP for the tool runs $14.99.
