I shut off the power to my home for 48 hours to see how well our emergency power plan would actually hold up. In this mock power outage drill, I used the Jackery Explorer 5000 Plus to power essential household circuits while testing different ways to conserve power, recharge the system, and keep the family functioning through a multi-day outage.
This wasnโt a normal product review. I wanted to see what happens when you actually have to live on stored power for two days, including overnight CPAP use, refrigerators and freezers, air conditioning, baby equipment, computers, lighting, and other everyday household loads.
I also tested several ways to recharge the power station, including solar panels, 12V vehicle charging, and a Honda EU2200i gas generator. Along the way, I learned a few important lessons about hidden household loads, whole-house power versus directly powering individual appliances, generator maintenance, and why having multiple charging options can make a big difference during a longer outage.
