Hollow Socks: Performance alpaca fiber socks [SHOT 2026]

SHOT Show is one of the few places where gear gets stress-tested without ever leaving a convention center. Between miles of concrete floors, long days on your feet, and quick wardrobe changes between meetings, it’s an ideal proving ground for socks. That’s exactly where I spent several full days wearing a pair of performance alpaca fiber socks from Hollow Socks, and so far, they’ve held up impressively.

The first thing I noticed was comfort. The socks are soft right out of the gate—no break-in period, no stiffness, and no itch. More importantly, they struck a balance that’s hard to find: my feet stayed warm without ever feeling sweaty. Even after hours of walking the show floor, there was none of that clammy sensation you expect when socks trap moisture. At the end of the day, odor wasn’t an issue either, which meant I could go straight from boots to heels without hesitation. That’s a small detail that matters when you’re juggling meetings, dinners, and late-night events.

Hollow’s story starts with founders Zach Stuck and Brian Davis, outdoor enthusiasts who spent years dealing with cold, damp, and smelly feet while skiing, cycling, and hiking. After two years of research, they landed on alpaca fiber as the solution—and built the brand around its unique properties. The name “Hollow” comes from the semi-hollow core structure of alpaca fibers, which naturally traps air to regulate temperature and manage moisture.

That fiber science shows up in use. Alpaca fibers absorb significantly less moisture than wool or cotton, allowing sweat to move away from the skin and evaporate before it becomes a problem. The fibers are also naturally antimicrobial and hypoallergenic, with no lanolin, which helps explain the lack of odor and irritation after long wear. Hollow reinforces high-wear zones with nylon, adding durability without sacrificing comfort.

Beyond performance, Hollow’s manufacturing story stands out. Premium baby alpaca fiber is sourced from certified Peruvian farmers, then designed in Wisconsin and manufactured in North Carolina using advanced knitting machines. The brand now offers a full lineup ranging from no-show and ankle socks to boot, hunt, run, ski, and compression models—each built for a specific use case.

After putting real miles on these socks at SHOT Show, the early verdict is positive. They’ve handled long days, temperature swings, and constant movement without complaint. I’m looking forward to continued wear while hiking and camping, but so far, Hollow’s alpaca socks are living up to their performance claims.
