FPC Working with the DOJ to Prioritize 2a Rights
The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) responded to reports that Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon is considering prioritizing gun rights within the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division. FPC is advocating for a dedicated section within the DOJ to address unconstitutional laws that affect the right to bear arms and free speech. FPC President Brandon Combs emphasized that this move would enhance their Second Amendment litigation, especially in states with restrictive laws. He expressed appreciation for the White House and DOJ’s responsiveness and aimed to collaborate with the Trump Administration to ensure effective resource allocation on these critical rights issues. “We are gratified to see that the White House and DOJ are taking our suggestion to help protect Second Amendment rights through the DOJ’s Civil Right Division,” states Brandom Combs, “and [we] look forward to continuing discussions with the Trump Administration to help ensure that the government is effectively and efficiently applying its resources to the most important issues and jurisdictions around the country.”
Earlier this year, FPC laid out a detailed plan for the Trump administration on key 1st and 2nd Amendment reforms to address “unconstitutional and burdensome rules, regulations, and enforcement practices.” Furthermore, in a February executive order, President Trump directed the Attorney General to “examine all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions of executive departments and agencies to assess any ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of our citizens and present a proposed plan of action to the President, through the Domestic Policy Advisor, to protect the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.”
The FPC, as part of its proposed reforms, is encouraging the administration and the DOJ to:
- Establish a Second Amendment Czar to oversee that all federal departments and agencies are aligned around protecting the right to keep and bear arms.
- Create and Staff a First and Second Amendment Section Within the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.
- Enact Massive National Firearms Act (NFA) Arms Reforms.
