This week, Toby and I head back to Greer Lake Campground in the Crow Wing State Forest for a quiet spring camping trip close to home. I’ve camped here before and thought I knew this place pretty well… but after digging into the area a little more, I found clues pointing to an old interpretive trail somewhere back in the woods.
Whether we found exactly what we were looking for or not, this trip turned into something bigger than just another night at camp. Along the way, we explore the history of Crow Wing State Forest, talk about county-managed tax-forfeited land in northern Minnesota, look at how these public lands are still used today, and settle in for a rainy night in the camper with a campfire meal.
On the menu for this trip: Dutch oven braised ribs finished over the fire with homemade barbecue sauce.
