Hey, ladies, if you’ve been hiking on this planet for a while, you know that it’s taken a long time for the outdoor industry to realize that women aren’t just men with smaller feet—a fact that is painfully obvious when you’re staring at a remote waterfall and all you can think about is the blisters on your heels. But lest we digress into a lengthy article (or 10) about that, Danner has some new boot technology you must know about.
Danner is a brand that has always been fit-obsessed, and they have taken it to a new level with their new women’s Precision Fit. Using data from millions of women’s feet, they’ve created boots that fit so perfectly, they feel like they’re extensions of you.
While Danner has always built their women’s styles around a women-specific last—the form around which the boot is molded—they recognized there was a need for something even better. Listening to input from women around the world, they have dedicated three years to researching, surveying, and testing to build an even more precise last that is based on data, not generalizations. Their Precision Fit incorporates data collected from multiple research studies, fit-testing clinics, and consumer survey insights to zero in on the two spots that cause women the most discomfort: the heel and toe-box width.
Women typically have a narrower heel, higher arch, and wider forefoot than men. Danner’s existing women’s boots do account for this, but the new Precision Fit boots promise to have a more precise heel capture, fitted instep height, and more generous toe box.
What does this mean for you? It means no more hot spots, blisters, or sore sixth toes (the bone on the pinky side of your forefoot). It means you can focus on the nature you go on hikes to experience—not the pain in your feet. It means freedom and fun, which is, of course, why we hike.
Here are the new styles that incorporate Precision Fit:
Inquire Mid
This trail-ready number is serious enough to trek to the summit and light enough to have a celebratory dance party après. Upgraded with Danner’s Precision Fit technology, it will keep your heel where it belongs and give your toes room to breathe, eliminating the hot spots and pain points you thought you’d have to suffer through forever. It’s now recraftable, too, which adds years to its lifespan. It incorporates a stable Trailguard platform, Danner Dry waterproofing, an OrthoLite footbed, athletic-inspired Plyolite EVA midsole, and a custom resoleable Vibram outsole.
Inquire Chukka
The Inquire Chukka has been one of Danner’s best-sellers for several reasons—it’s lightweight, waterproof, built to do it all, and looks cute with jeans, too. This season, Danner upgraded it to have Precision Fit, which means it’s designed to fit better right out of the box, and it can be resoled and reconditioned, too. It’s made with a waterproof suede or durable full-grain leather on the upper, a cushioning OrthoLite footbed, lightweight Trailguard platform, grippy Vibram® outsole with Megagrip and Traction Lug technology, and Danner Dry waterproof protection.
Jag II
Your favorite, um, reboot from the ’80s just got another makeover. Crafted with the new women-specific Precision Fit, the Jag II now features a narrower and even more supportive heel (read: no blisters, ever) and a roomier toe box. It’s also now eligible for recrafting, which means you can get it resoled and reconditioned after the trail miles start to take their toll. With lightweight materials, Danner Dry waterproof protection, OrthoLite footbeds, and new multi-terrain waffle outsole, it’s an adventure partner that won’t let you down. With the new Jag II, we went back to both the old school look and the old school ethos of care and repair. You won’t find a better boot at this price anywhere.
Ladies, our days of conforming are over. It’s high time for us to have the freedom and fit we deserve, and Danner delivers it right to our door. So buy up, lace up, and hike up—adventure has never felt so comfortable.
