In this video, Maggie and I head out to the woods to do a spot of campfire cooking.
After collecting firewood and lighting a fire to get a good bed of embers, I make a simple bread dough. After needing and proving the dough, I bake the loaf over the fire in my Dutch oven. To go with the loaf, I then pan fry some delicious smoked Halloumi cheese, wrapped in bacon – delicious!

Bread Recipe
1lb (450g) plain flour
1lb (450g) strong white bread flour
1oz (28g) sugar or honey
1oz (28g) dried yeast
1pt (568ml) warm water
1 tsp salt
Mix the sugar and yeast with half the water
Mix the flour and salt in a zip lock bag
Slowly mix in the yeast mixture followed by the remaining water
Mix in the bag
Kneed for 5 minutes
Put in a warm place to prove (double in size)
Kneed again
Shape into a loaf shape
Prove again
Bake 200 degrees C for 35-45 minutes
When the base sounds hollow when tapped, she’s done!
