  • Load Type Compatibility: Lead and hybrid heavy loads from #2 to #10

Pros

  • Extends your range
  • Tight patterns

  • Looks cool

Cons

  • Expensive

Why I Chose It

The Black Diamond Strike is the best choke tube for turkey hunting because it lengthens your range, holds tight patterns, and is engineered to the tightest tolerances. Most hunters are comfortable slinging some lead or TSS at a turkey at 40 yards, but much farther, and it becomes ethically questionable. However, hunters have harvested Toms at 65 yards with the Black Diamond Strike, so 50-yard shots are well within reason.

The extended range is thanks to the tight patterns, no matter what load you’re firing. You can expect baseball-sized patterns at 20 yards, softball-sized patterns at 40 yards, and basketball-sized patterns at 60 yards. Indian Creek has exceptional customer service and , so you’ll get a high-quality turkey choke when you buy the Black Diamond Strike. If you do happen to have any problems, they’ll quickly and happily fix them.

However, the biggest drawback is the price of the Black Diamond Strike, which makes any problems you might have even more frustrating. It’s not a cheap turkey choke, but it’s also not unreasonably expensive, considering the quality and eye-catching good looks this turkey choke offers. You won’t be disappointed with the Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike, no matter what shotgun or gauge you use this turkey season.

’s Long Beard XR – Runner-Up

Specifications

  • Gauges: 10-gauge, 12-gauge, and 20-gauge
  • Compatible Shotgun Manufacturers: Benelli, Beretta, Browning, Mossberg, Remington, , Winchester, and many others
  • Load Type Compatibility: Lead, copper-plated, and anything smaller than #4 steel shot

Pros

  • Greater penetration
  • Made in the USA
  • Tight patterns
  • Extended range

Cons

  • Designed around a single ammunition

Why I Chose It

I’ve used ’s choke tubes for many years and have been very impressed with them, including the Long Beard XR. ’s chokes are proudly made in the USA and offer turkey hunters tight patterns, an extended range, and up to 10% greater penetration. If you love using Winchester Long Beard turkey loads, then the Carlson’s Long Beard XR is the choke for you because it was explicitly designed to be paired with these rounds. When paired, you can expect deeper penetration and tighter patterns at 50 yards.

I love that they’re made in the USA, and I’m happy to support an American company that produces quality hunting gear. The biggest downside is that this choke was designed around a single load (Winchester Long Beard). However, that doesn’t mean other loads perform poorly when used with this turkey choke. The Carlson’s Long Beard XR will drop a wise gobbler, especially when combined with the right ammo, so don’t hesitate to pick one up today (especially if you use Winchester Long Beard loads).

Kick’s Gobblin’ Thunder – Budget-Friendly

Specifications

  • Gauges: 10-gauge, 12-gauge, 16-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge, and .410 bore
  • Compatible Shotgun Manufacturers: Benelli, Beretta, Browning, Mossberg, Remington, Weatherby, Winchester, and many others
  • Load Type Compatibility: Lead and TSS up to #4 shot size

Pros

  • Made in the USA
  • Reasonably priced
  • Recoil and muzzle lift reduction

Cons

  • Patterns are less dense than higher-end chokes
  • The range is slightly limited compared to more expensive chokes

Why I Chose It

I’ve been a fan of Kick’s chokes for a long time, and the Gobblin’ Thunder was the first turkey choke I purchased because it was reasonably priced and performed well in the woods. This choke helped me bag my first turkey, a Jake, and my first long beard. As a smaller-framed individual, I appreciate that this choke reduces recoil and muzzle lift when firing shoulder-thumping turkey loads. Allowing for faster follow-up shots when needed (yes, I’ve needed follow-up shots).

My biggest frustration is that the Gobblin’ Thunder’s pattern isn’t as tight at 40 yards as some others on this list, so your range is a little more limited. I tend to feel comfortable harvesting a Tom at 50 yards max when using this choke. The Kick’s Gobblin’ Thunder will drop a turkey this season for a beginner or turkey hunter on a limited budget. If you’re looking for another budget-friendly option, the Primos Jellyhead Maximum is worth checking out.

JEBS Head Hunter – Best High-End

Specifications

  • Gauges: 10-gauge, 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge, and .410 bore
  • Compatible Shotgun Manufacturers: Benelli, Beretta, Browning, Mossberg, Remington, , Weatherby, Winchester, and many others
  • Load Type Compatibility: Lead and TSS #4 shot and smaller

Pros

  • Trusted Brand
  • Made in the USA
  • Tight patterns
  • Extended range

Cons

  • Expensive

Why I Chose It

The JEBS Head Hunter might be the most expensive turkey choke on this list, but it’s well worth the cost because it gives the turkey hunter an extended range with tight patterns, and it’s made in the USA. This choke tube holds a world record (according to their website), and many hunters claimed to have harvested Toms with it over 65 yards away using various loads and shotguns thanks to the tight patterns.

The price is what most hunters will complain about, but it’s not outrageous and well worth the investment for serious turkey hunters. I recommend the ported choke because it helps reduce felt recoil. However, you won’t be able to blame the JEBS Head Hunter if you miss this turkey season unless you’re not used to the tight patterns and extended range this turkey choke produces.

  • Load Type Compatibility: Lead and TSS #4 shot and smaller

Why I Chose It

I must mention the Patternmaster Code Black turkey choke because it’s manufactured by a trusted brand, designed for turkey hunting, and performs well in the field. I’ve had several buddies use Patternmaster chokes, and they have always been pleased with them because they produce a good pattern at 40 yards. The Patternmaster Code Black Turkey isn’t just another extended choke tube with a turkey label slapped on it. It’s been designed explicitly for turkey loads.

While the Patternmaster isn’t the most expensive choke tube on the list, it’s more costly than a few others. However, it claims to have an effective range of up to 70 yards, making it well worth the price. If you’re unhappy with your turkey choke and haven’t given the Patternmaster Code Black a chance, you should.
