What does America actually get RIGHT about prepping — and what should Britain copy?
British prepping and American prepping are very different, but when it comes to **emergency preparedness** there is one thing the USA does particularly well: it makes preparedness a normal conversation for ordinary families.
In this video, I look at what Britain could genuinely learn from America’s approach — without copying the bunkers, weapons, enormous stockpiles or survival culture that simply doesn’t fit most British homes.
Using the latest **2026 UK Government preparedness survey, America’s National Preparedness Month and practical examples from everyday life** we look at why sensible UK prepping should be less about buying equipment and much more about understanding your own risks, household and weak points.
We look at:
• Why America’s preparedness culture is different
• What the latest UK preparedness figures actually reveal
• Why so few British households feel properly prepared
• Water, power cuts and communication failures
• Why written phone numbers and low-tech backups still matter
• Preparing realistically in flats and smaller British homes
• Cost and storage problems faced by ordinary households
• Why your neighbours may matter more than £1,000 of survival equipment
• Why equipment is NOT the same thing as having a plan
• Whether Britain should have its own National Preparedness Month
The point isn’t to turn Britain into America.
Our geography, laws, housing and risks are different.
The lesson is much simpler:
**Preparedness should be normal**
You don’t need to call yourself a prepper. You don’t need a bunker. And you certainly don’t need to spend thousands of pounds.
You simply need to think about what your household would do if normal everyday services suddenly stopped working.
So here’s the question I’d genuinely like your view on:
**Should Britain have its own National Preparedness Month?**
Would it encourage more ordinary households to prepare — or would most people simply ignore it until something went wrong?
Let me know below. And if you’re watching from the United States, I’d particularly like to hear what you think America gets right — and what you think Britain gets right too.
