KivaKube: Multi-Use BBQ [SHOT 2026]
Tucked deep in the SHOT Show basement, in a small booth near the back, sat one of the most genuinely interesting pieces of gear I came across all week: KivaKube. It wasn’t flashy or oversized, but once you stopped to look, it was clear this wasn’t just another compact grill chasing novelty for novelty’s sake.
At first glance, the KivaKube presents itself as a portable barbecue, but that description barely scratches the surface. In its base configuration, it’s designed for charcoal use, but with modular attachments it can also function as a grill, smoker, oven, stove, or even a contained fireplace. That level of flexibility is uncommon, especially in a package that still prioritizes durability and real-world usability.
The form factor is a major part of what makes the KivaKube stand out. The unit folds down into a compact cube for transport, making it far easier to pack than traditional barrel or tripod-style grills. Even folded, it feels substantial. At roughly 75 pounds, it’s heavy enough to be stable and confidence-inspiring without being unreasonable for overlanding or a weekend at the lake.
One of the most intentional engineering decisions shows up in the cooking surfaces. The grill plates are solidly built—not thin or flimsy—and that was done on purpose. According to the team, the heavier construction ensures proper and even heat distribution across all configurations, whether you’re grilling directly over charcoal, smoking, or running the unit as an oven. In addition to the grill plates, the system also includes a solid flat plate that functions as a griddle, opening the door to everything from breakfast cooking to searing and sauté-style meals.
Charcoal management is also well thought out. The included square chimney starter isn’t just a visual quirk—it makes pouring hot coals more controlled and predictable than traditional round designs. Combined with the KivaKube’s chimney system, smoke is directed upward and away from the cooking area, helping manage airflow and keep smoke from lingering where you don’t want it.
The lid itself feels equally intentional. It’s solid, moves smoothly, and features a built-in notch that stops its movement at a set point rather than flopping freely. Integrated hooks allow grill tools to hang directly from the lid, keeping everything close at hand without cluttering your workspace.
One of the more confidence-inspiring details came straight from a co-owner on site: the KivaKube can be safely set on a truck tailgate without concern for heat damage. A dedicated stand is also reportedly in development, which would further expand placement options.
In a show packed with polished booths and incremental updates, KivaKube felt refreshingly different—quietly innovative, purpose-built, and clearly designed by people who understand how outdoor cooking actually happens. It’s exactly the kind of product you hope to discover when you wander off the main aisles at SHOT Show.
