In celebration of World Ocean Day, Costa Sunglasses is proud to announce the next evolution of its Untangled Collection, a line dedicated to preserving the oceans and reducing marine debris. The latest collection continues Costa’s commitment to sustainability by utilizing 97% recycled fishing nets, a material sourced through the company’s ongoing partnership with Bureo® and its innovative NetPlus® technology.
The Untangled Collection was created to combat the growing problem of ocean pollution, and with the latest launch, Costa is reinforcing its dedication to both environmental protection and high-performance eyewear. Each frame in the collection is made from fishing nets retrieved from the ocean, repurposed into durable, lightweight eyewear, and now features Costa’s 580G Gold Mirror Lens for enhanced clarity and UV protection.
The newly released frames in the Untangled Collection—Pargo, Santiago, Antille, and Caleta—offer the ideal balance of style, durability, and environmental responsibility. These new models are designed to provide outdoor enthusiasts with eyewear that can withstand the elements while also contributing to marine conservation efforts. The eyewear continues to offer the high-quality performance that Costa is known for, with added features that meet the needs of serious outdoor adventurers.
Costa’s partnership with Bureo® has been a crucial component of this initiative. Since 2018, Costa and Bureo® have successfully repurposed over 3.6 metric tons of discarded fishing nets, turning them into eco-friendly materials for eyewear production. David Stover, co-founder and CEO of Bureo®, emphasized the significance of collaborating with local fishing communities to address ocean pollution and promote sustainability.
In addition to the Untangled Collection, Costa continues to collaborate with more than 20 nonprofit organizations, including PADI Aware, Surfrider Foundation, and Captains for Clean Water, to promote conservation efforts and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the world’s waterways and marine ecosystems.
