Dutch Oven Blueberry Cobbler

This is one of my dad’s favorite camping recipes because it is a blueberry extravaganza and this guy is a blueberry lover!

I created this blueberry to surprise him for his birthday camping trip and he enjoyed every spoonful … and, he was gracious enough to share with the rest of us!

How To Make This Easy Cast Iron Blueberry

When you are making camping dessert recipes with fruit, it is easy to open a can of something but this recipe calls for FRESH blueberries … they are the star of the show and they make this sweet treat almost-gourmet … so … no substitutions allowed, please.

Step 1. Prepare and pre-heat your equipment.

If you are making this campfire blueberry as one of our campfire recipes, you’ll need to get your fire going in order to bake with nice coals, or you can use charcoal briquettes if you desire a more consistent heat.

You will be baking this recipe at 350 degrees so get your Dutch oven preheated now, (25 total coals = 17 top / 8 bottom).

If you are using a different sized oven, check our Dutch oven temperature chart to see how many coals you need.

If you prefer with propane, you can also make this as one of our camp stove recipes so get your stove ready for on a level surface along with your Dutch oven dome and heat diffuser plate.

Step 2. Combine the filling.

Make sure you wash the blueberries and remove any stems then combine them with some of the sugar and orange juice.

If you love fresh blueberries but want them for breakfast, try these blueberry lemon Dutch oven muffins!

Step 3. Make the topping.

This is a really simple … but totally flavorful topping!

You just need to mix the butter, some of the sugar, vanilla, flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.

Step 4. Add ingredients to pre-heated Dutch oven.

You have a choice here … you can either bake this dessert right in your Dutch oven or use a liner.

Here are tips on how to use Dutch oven liners.

You’ll pour the blueberry mixture into the pre-heated Dutch oven then drop the topping over the filling mixture.

Step 5. Bake the cobbler dessert.

The prep time on this recipe is quick but you will need a little patience for the baking time.

It takes about 40 – 50 minutes to get the blueberries bubbly and the cobbler topping cooked through.

Camp Cooking Tip: When you are making Dutch oven baked goods, be sure to turn your oven during the cooking process to ensure even baking … every 10 – 15 minutes, turn the lid and the oven (in opposite directions) about 1/4 turn throughout the entire baking time.

Step 6. Cool slightly and serve.

Now it is time to remove this yummy camping blueberry cobbler from the heat and remove the lid.

You’ll want to cool it slightly before you serve it warm.

This dessert tastes FANTASTIC without adding anything to it … but … if you want to add a bit of fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream … go for it!

Pairings For This.

I like serving this fresh and fabulous dessert alongside one of my easy camping meals.
